A union steward is the first point of contact between your fellow members and the union leadership. Stewards are leaders, advocates, and communicators helping to improve their workplace and strengthen our union. The prospect of becoming a steward may be intimidating, but it's not as challenging as you'd think and you are never alone! Union leadership and your fellow stewards are always there to help. Printed materials will be provided at the training, but a digital version of the AFSCME steward handbook is available at https://www.afscme.org/about/governance/document/AFSCME-Steward-Handbook-1.pdf.
