Coralville Re-Certification Election Period - Cast Your Ballots!
https://www.afscmecouncil61.org/recertifications-0
BE READY TO (RE)VOTE “UNION YES” THIS FALL SO WE CAN BARGAIN OUR NEXT CONTRACT
Anti-union state legislation passed in 2017 attacked our union bargaining rights and created numerous new obstacles and administrative hoops for Iowa public workers to jump through to maintain our union and our contract. One process required under the new law is a state-administered election to “recertify” our union at the expiration of every contract. For Coralville employees, this election will take place this fall. You will be asked to vote on whether you would like to maintain AFSCME Local 183 as the union representing your bargaining unit. Parks and Public Works employees, be on the lookout for election notices in your workplace. Please know that under the anti-union law that created this new requirement, not voting is the same as voting “no”--so it’s important that every single worker casts a vote!
Transit employees are not required to recertify because they are covered by a federal labor law.
Fall 2024 Election Period: 7 a.m. October 8th - 9 a.m. October 22nd
